AnthropicEveryday AIPrivacy & Data

Claude

Anthropic's AI assistant for writing, coding, document work and longer-form analysis. The main security question is which account and integrations sit behind the conversation, not simply which model is answering.

Practical snapshot

What can it touch?

Capabilities depend on your plan, workspace settings and the permissions you approve.

01Files and documents you upload
02Project knowledge you deliberately add
03Web information when supported
04Connected tools and integrations you authorise
05Code, repositories or development context where integrations allow it

Where Claude is especially useful

Claude is strong for reading and working through long documents, structured writing, coding and research. Teams can also use projects, files and integrations to give it more context.

That context is exactly where the security conversation starts. A one-off public document is very different from a project containing client files or an integration that can reach business systems.

Treat Claude's context as something you deliberately assemble. Keep projects narrow, avoid turning convenient long-lived context into a dumping ground for sensitive material, and review connected tools as carefully as you would any other app with business access.

Before you connect it

Five checks worth making

  • Keep projects scoped. A project for one client or task is easier to reason about than one giant knowledge bucket.
  • Check the account type. Company information should sit under the plan and workspace your organisation has approved.
  • Review integrations separately. A useful connector can expose much more than the prompt in front of you.
  • Avoid unnecessary long-lived context. Remove files or project knowledge when the task no longer needs them.
  • Keep credentials outside prompts. API keys, passwords and recovery material belong in proper secret-management tools.
